Holme @ Hinchliffe Mill is a development of 19 three and four bedroom homes on the site of a former textile mill. The site lies between Water Street and Spring Lane, in the village of Hinchliffe Mill, a mile south west of Holmfirth in the Holme Valley.
The valley offers a stunning rural backdrop. It is bordered by the River Holme to the north west and Cartworth Moor to the south east. The original mill pond has been retained, extended and re-landscaped to provide a focal point to the scheme.
The scheme has four main elements:
Cross Mill has been converted to form four three-bedroom homes and three four-bedroom homes, varying from 1,800 sq.ft to 2,600 sq.ft. Rooflights in the mill’s double-pitched roof draw natural light into double-height spaces.
Each home has an open-plan living area with views towards the mill pond. Four of the larger units feature glass pods, cantilevered over the pond. Parking is provided on the lower ground floor level of the mill.
Two new terraces containing five homes at right angles to Cross Mill form a new central courtyard. Built in local natural stone, the terraces reflect the site’s industrial history with their saw-tooth northlight roofs. The natural daylight that floods through is increased by the use of contemporary bay windows with full-height glazed screens.
The North Light Terrace stands next to the River Holme and contains four three-bedroom homes and one four-bedroom home, ranging from 1,680 sq.ft to 2,160 sq.ft. The living accommodation is arranged over the first and second floors to make the most of the beautiful rural views, with ancillary areas at ground floor level.
The Mending Shed, on the south east side of the courtyard, backs on to the hillside and contains five four-bedroom homes ranging from 2,220 to 2,560 sq.ft. With the exception of one unit, the houses have an integral garage and a large secondary living area in addition to the main open plan living space. All the houses have extensive south-facing lawned gardens to the rear.
The Blending Shed, to the west of Cross Mill and overlooking the mill pond, is the site of a further two four-bedroom homes. They are accessed via Spring Lane which runs along the south of the pond. Holme One is the largest property on the site with a floor area of just under 2,800 sq.ft and a detached garage. Its extensive living areas feature double-height spaces and have sliding folding screens to give access to gardens banking down to the pond. Holme Two shares many of the same architectural features and has a floor area of just under 2,500 sq.ft.
